The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley presented Silvia Rodriguez, Director of the Shelton Youth Services Bureau, and Karen Bentlage, business entrepreneur, with its Raymond P. Lavietes Service to Youth award, on April 9. The award is the highest honor the Club can present to an individual, named after beloved Club friend and supporter, Ray Lavietes, who helped make our Boys & Girls Club a frontrunner in the provision of services to youth through his dedication and commitment. This award honors an individual or individuals worthy of recognition due to their involvement in serving the youth of our community.

ROCK STARS: The Connecticut Chapter of Entrepreneurs’ Organization, a global, peer-to-peer network of more than 11,000 influential business leaders with 153 chapters in 48 countries, recently was selected as one of 30 chapters worldwide honored with the Rock Star Award, according to a release. The award is granted to chapters that “rocked” EO metrics in areas such as chapter growth, learning, Forum strength, communications, financial organization and member engagement, the release said. Yale school of Management case study

Karen and Twan Bentlage had opened two locations of the European Wax Center in Manhattan. When Karen and her husband Twan had secured exclusive rights to develop the Manhattan market for European Wax Center, they had recruited an operating partner to manage the Centers on their behalf. That worked for the first few months, until the Bentlages’ hand-picked partner suddenly walked away from the venture in the summer. Out of necessity, Karen had stepped in to fill the leadership void on a temporary basis.
